Protest the Electro Purification LLC (EP) Production Permit Application To the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD)!
A Clear and Present Danger to Our Aquifers, Economic Security and the Health and Quality of Life of Our Community
We the undersigned express our opposition to the Electro Purification LLC (EP) Production Permit Application to mine water for export that is under consideration by the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD) Board of Directors. We base our objections on the following:
EP’s proposed groundwater production permit requests the largest amount of groundwater from the Trinity Aquifer in Hays County than any permit that has ever come before this District. While BSEACD has presented research and data, too many unknowns about the impacts of this permit remain. More scientific data and analysis is needed to determine impacts on water availability, water quality, surface water, and landowners’ property rights before any final permit is considered.
The EP permit will result in further water level declines in the Trinity Aquifer, because pumping will exceed recharge. This means we risk drying up wells, springs, and creeks in the Wimberley Valley.
This single permit will give away all of the remaining available groundwater from the Trinity Aquifer within the District to EP. This unprecedented and grossly disproportionate amount to one permittee is not for the benefit of the EP’s land but to export the water out of the area.
We oppose the EP permit in its current form as presented by the BSEACD staff. We believe that BSEACD must conduct more intensive studies and provide a more thorough analysis that protects both the Trinity Aquifer and landowners’ property rights in the long term.
